Taking part in a Cross Bay Walk is an exceptional way to enjoy the stunning beauty of Morecambe Bay. Crossing the sands with an experienced and knowledgeable guide is the only way to traverse the ever-changing flats and channels, and this amazing experience is a must for visitors to the area. People have been crossing the sands with a royally-appointed guide since the 1500s, so come and enjoy this historic walk and immerse yourself in Morecambe Bay's unique scenery and wildlife. Some walks are held on behalf of charities, so places can be booked via the charity - whereas for some walks, you can book directly with the The Guide Over Sands Trust - see the website for dates, details and how to book! You can choose from two amazing routes: ARNSIDE TO GRANGE WALKSA historic bay walk across the bay from Arnside to Grange. Although the walk dates back to the era of Henry VIII and the original route was from Hest Bank to Kents Bank, due to the soft sand at Hest Bank therefore the route is now Arnside to Grange. Today, the walk from Arnside is a lovely walk with a varied terrain and is between 5.5 to 9 miles depending on the safest route. FIND OUT MORE CHAPEL ISLAND WALKSJoin the official appointed guide of the Levens Estuary on a historic walk to Chapel Island. The island boasts an array of wildlife, from nesting birds to the ruins of the Chapel itself. Please note walkers are not allowed on the island until July 2024, so prior to the date we will walk near the island but leaving plenty of distance not to disturb the nesting birds so binoculars are a must!
